Climate Change & Reforestation

Since 2019, ISHAKA 2250 has been actively engaged in restoring degraded ecosystems in Burundi, making a lasting impact on environmental and social resilience.

Through reforestation and soil management projects, we have restored thousands of hectares of land, fostering biodiversity and strengthening local communities’ capacity to adapt to the effects of climate change.

For instance, in Bujumbura, in the former Kanyosha commune on Kuryabiseregete hill, 1,000 hectares of degraded land have been restored through tree planting. These efforts help stabilize soils and reduce flood risks for both urban and rural communities.
